Welcome toFaith Seeking Understanding
Beginnings
This blog is co-authored by Ashton and Sarah Glod. They have been married for almost two years, meeting whilst studying at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Both of them are fully dedicated disciples of Jesus Christ, who are passionate about studying God’s Word so that they might reconcile people to God. They especially love serving children and youth by pressing into the sensitive issues that deeply affect their lives.
Because of the multitude of controversial and complex issues in our world today which touch all of society Ashton and Sarah have become burdened with the desire to address these issues with God’s Word. They believe that there are answers in Scripture to the difficult questions our world faces.
In this blog, Ashton and Sarah will dialogue with various viewpoints contradicting orthodox Christianity that is being voiced by prevalent culture. Their goal is to re-inculcate a proper attitude towards and understanding of Scripture into society so that people can rightly orient themselves to God.
The title “Faith Seeking Understanding” is inspired by the phrase coined by Saint Augustine who realized that many truths cannot be understood without first putting one’s faith in Jesus Christ. The indwellling of the Holy Spirit enlivens our hearts to accept and understand certain truths which we would be unable to do whilst dead in our sin. Although Augustine developed this doctrine from an erroneous interpretation of Isaiah 7:9, there is ample Scriptural evidence which supports this doctrine. 1 Corinthian 2:6-16 explains that the Spirit of God imparts secret wisdom to Christians, known only to God, which cannot even by accepted by “natural” people.
Because of faith seeking understanding, the authors believe that God is able to lead people to the absolute truth concerning certain matters. Although not everyone reading will hold to orthodox Christianity, the authors encourage those with opposing viewpoints to continue reading, reflect and respond in healthy discussion over disagreements, “we encourage counter arguments in the earnest pursuit of truth!”
